Many people ask me how I built the reef pillars and what should be attended to when building them up. I will come in to an instruction of constructing a reef using reef cement and live rock in the following weeks.
But I have one important point for all future reef builders already:
Don’t build your reef too high!
If you want to establish SPS onthe top of your rock, their size should be included in the planning.
My tip: The height of the pillars should not exceed 1/2-3/4 the tank height.
A freshly set up reef with rock should look empty to not look overloaded when corals are growing. Gorges and pillars are a good means to achieve an stylish reef tank.
