This summer, the temperature in my apartment reached the the 25 ° C mark. Because my tanks temperature is always about 2°C more than my room temperature, I was looking for an affordable and effective solution to cool down my tank. A chiller was out of the question for several reasons.
Basis is an old Grotech fan unit with 4 6cm fans, but this turned out to be too noisy and undersized because of the small fans as.Now I have thought through several options and decided on a reconstruction of the fan.
2x 12cm fan fit in the original four fans version. I use Akasa 12cm Quiet Cool Fans with 1200rpm and max 17dBA. Thanks to the blue LED lighting I have now a moon light on top
You will need:
– New Fans (at 4x 2x 12cm version, the version 6x 3x12cm)
– Cross Screwdriver
– Cutter
– soldering Iron
– Dremel
1. Solve the four screws on the side, then all parts can be taken apart.
Then cut off the fan cable and discard the standard fan.
2. Cut off around 2mm at each side by using the dremel.
3. Connect the fan cables. The yellow cable can be removed.
4. Fix the fans
And this is the result – thanks to the blue LED light fan I have now even a moon / night light.
