Hands-On: Aquacalculator iPhone

Aqua calculator Iphone

Perhaps you already know the PC Version of Aquacalculator. It is a strong tool, which I’m using regularly – but with a Mac and iPhone, it was always hard to handle the incompatibility.

Finally, Martin Kuhn, programmed an iPhone App of the Aquacalculator!

As I’m in the Beta test program, I’ve got the possibility to present you here on ilovereefing.de first impressions of the (final) beta version. aCalc will be eventually released short before christmas and will cost 5,99€ in the App Store. I think it’s a wise invest!

The App will be available in german and english language!

Aquacalculator for iPhone includes all Features, we already know of the PC Version:

  • Documentation of water parameters
  • Setting the salinity: Change salinity in your tank, calculate the needed amount of salt to prepare fresh salt water, adjust the salinity by water change.
  • CaAlkMg Supplements: Set the desired Balling values, determine consumption and sustainable balance.
  • Adjust nutrients: NO3 und PO4
  • Conversion-Tool: Convert volumes, weights, temperature and salinity
  • And: A detailed FAQ-database of the author, who is known for his guides for various topics among the scene. It is very detailed and also available “offline”!

I’d like to show you some of the tools in pictures:

1. Basic settings

Initially used to define the desired data, methods of measurement, tank name, size and waterchange volume.

2. Home Screen

After that, you’ll end up in the index – your home screen, which displays all the basic features of the app:

3. Water parameters diary

You’ve got the option to enter your individual measurements here and consider the development of the values here. I’m using this function very often. However, one must also use it consistently, since a completeness is very important.

In the following, the individual values are shown graphically:

4. Salzgehalt einstellen

Now we come to the, in my opinion, most important tool of the Aquacalculator – the salinity function.

Here you have the possibility to adjust the salinity in the tank, to calculate the needed salt for fresh salt water but also to set the salinity of your tank using a water change.

5. Calcium-, Alkalinity-, Magnesium and nutritional adjustments:

With this tool you can easily adjust the above mentioned parameters by a single addition. You get also the possibility to calculate the “Balling-method. Since I myself use a calcium reactor and son’t use Balling, I couldn’t test this feature. Nevertheless, here are some pictures:

6. Converter

aCalc offers a simple and convenient tool, that allows the convertion of volumen (Liter -> Gal) , weight (Gramm->Oz), temperatur (°C->°F), Alkalinity and salinity:

7. And finally: FAQ’s

Martin Kuhn has developed an extensive knowledge base to sea-water-related issued. Including much know-how on water parameters and the measurement, the adjustment of CA / MG / ALK and Balling and many tips like flow, live rock, lightening and so on.
